| Hidden Treasure from 2 Kings (June 24th reading) | | There was a special line that jumped out at me from our reading of June 24th. It's found in the 6th chapter of 2 Kings. Here we find Israel and Syria in war and the prophet Elisha is giving advice and prophecy to the king of Israel so that Syria wants him captured and killed. Elisha is in the city of Dothan and at dawn's light his servant goes out only to find themselves surrounded by the Syrians. Fearing capture and doom, he exclaims, "What shall we do?" Elisha replies, "Do not fear for those who are with us are more than those who are with them. Elisha prays and the servant's eyes are opened and he sees the protection of God in the form of chariots of fire completely surrounding them. And there was the nugget for me.
So often I find myself feeling trapped by obstacles or a crisis and along with Elisha's servant I cry, "what shall I do" fearing all is lost. It is in those times that I need to remember that God's protection is near and His assistance is very real. It is the same point that the writer of Hebrews makes in Chapter 12 when he refers to our being surrounded by "a great cloud of witnesses" thus enabling us to run the race that is before us.
The old movie "O God" comes to mind. God, as reverently played in gentle humor by George Burns, commands a modern day grocery store manager portrayed by John Denver to go forth and spread the Gospel in today's world. As the move ends, Denver is at the end of his rope having done his best but surrounded by his foes and just about to be overcome. At this point, God steps in with the the wonderful and memorable line, "I'll take it from here."
All of this came together for me in today's reading. May it prove to be a blessing for you as it was for me.
Best to all,
Ron Jer 6:16a

I wish I could tell you what it does to my heart when people share what they are actually getting from each days DAB readings! Thank you thank you thankyou for sharing this!!!! It is a powerful word for YOU, for us, and it makes a "heap of stones" in remberance that the LORD was here and spoke today in your life. When I see these sorts of "heaps of stones" I am reminded, regardless of the content, that God is living and here among us. Thank you for taking the time to share.
